Unfolding Consciousness:
Exploring the Living Universe and Intelligent Powers in Nature and Humans
|
|
This talk presents an overview of a work, in four volumes, which has been has been some two decades in the making, much of this time during the most turbulent period in modern world history, and represents the fruits of over half a century of exploration and research in science and the Perennial Philosophy. What is its particular purpose?
- to point towards a deeper understanding of man’s ‘spiritual anatomy and physiology’:
- to show how such insights into the subtle aspects of man provide an understanding of the principles of the universe and nature because, as the legendary philosophers declared: ‘Man is the Measure of All Things’;
- to show that man and the universe, down to the minutest particle of matter, are imbued with consciousness, goal-orientated evolution and purpose.
With that in mind, the material is presented in a logical and sequential fashion, thus:
Volume I: A Panoramic Survey – Science Contrasted with the Perennial Philosophy on Consciousness and Man
This Volume provides an overall survey and appreciation of the field of enquiry. Whilst fully valuing the worth of mainstream science, at the same time its limitations, concerning the deeper questions of life and consciousness, are laid bare. This then defines the legitimate boundaries of science and so establishes the need for invoking the Perennial Philosophy to provide the deficit that mainstream science, constrained by its philosophy of materialism, is unable to accomplish.
Volume II: Peering Down the Microscope – Man’s Internal Landscapes
The principal objective of this Volume is a microscopic exposition of the complete constitution and nature of the human being involving an in-depth account of the subtle (i.e., non-physical) bodies of the human being on all levels from the spiritual to the physical. A major theme is justifying why the human being cannot be thought of merely as a bio-physical machine, nor the human mind equated with the brain which, in turn, cannot be regarded, even in principle, as ‘just a computer’
Volume III: Gazing Through the Telescope – Man is the Measure of All Things
This Volume constitutes a telescopic exposition of the role of the human being in the scheme of the universe and nature. It supplies the key to the adage Man is the measure of all things by explaining how and why the wisdom and powers invested in the universe are also present in each human being. The core of this narrative is a detailed and stepwise account of the derivation of the human senses: how physical sensation can result in subjective experience.
Volume IV: References, Resources, and Further Reading
This Volume forms the Timeline, Profiles, Definitions, Editorial Notes, Glossary, Bibliography, and General Index to the three Volumes. It provides a comprehensive ‘roadmap’ allowing readers to navigate their way seamlessly through more than 2000 references, copious tables, diagrams and individual chapter summaries.

He was Project Manager and Head of Design for major innovative projects such as the Channel Tunnel, London Underground systems, and offshore installations. He also worked in safety and environmental engineering and management for several Royal Navy projects, including the Queen Elizabeth Aircraft Carrier and the fleet of five River-class Offshore Patrol Vessels.
A student of the perennial philosophy for over half a century, Edi has given courses and lectured extensively in the UK, and internationally in California, the Netherlands, India, and Australia. He has organized and chaired conferences in order to encourage the cross fertilization of ideas in the fields of science, religion and practical philosophy. He worked as Education Manager for the Theosophical Society in Australia developing courses and study papers, researching, lecturing and organizing international conferences; as well as supervising the Research Library, National Media Library, National Members Lending Library and the development of the website.
Edi has published extensively in the disciplines of science, engineering and the esoteric philosophy. His book The Snake and the Rope was awarded a prize by the Scientific and Medical Network on which he now serves as an Advisor to Board, a Trustee of the SMN, and an Adviser to the Galileo Commission of the Network. Edi is also a Trustee and a Council Member of the Francis Bacon Society.
